Various (Col) - Rodrigo D: No Futuro (1990)

Various (Col) - Rodrigo D: No Futuro (1990)

There was a film released in 1990 in Colombia about a kid from Medellin who wanted to start a punk band and the soundtrack featured bands from that city, both punk and metal.  It even featured a scene with the drummer of Parabellum as well as Blasfemia playing a gig on the rooftop.

The A side contained punk and the B side was Metal.  Although, the last track on Side A, track 9 by Amén is actually a metal song that I guess didn't fit on the B side and side A had heaps of room since all the tracks were so short.  The intro to the Amén song is also total Slayer worship by the way.  I love every single track on this album, but I tend to lean more towards liking the punk side a lot more, I don't know why.  I love the song Dinero and when you hear it playing in the movie with the kids walking down the dirt street it just works so well.

The Metal side is great too.  Blasfemia's recording of Postmortem here is probably my favourite and I enjoy it a lot more than the version on Guerra Total.  It is less thin and fuzzy sounding, but that doesn't mean it is any less aggressive.  There was a CD re-release of this that featured a few more bands which I believe were metal bands too.  It has Nekromantie, which, if you haven't heard before then you NEED to.  I don't know why they were omitted from the original soundtrack and not released for another 20 years when they have a track played in the movie.  Oh well, you should definitely track that CD down.  It is released by Madman Productions who is run by a good friend of mine and also released some Blasfemia too.  Go check it out.

Masacre (Col) - Ola de Violencia (1991)

Masacre (Col) - Ola de Violencia (1991)

If ever there was such a legendary Colombian band it would be Masacre.  Created by the essence of pure evil, this was the original band of Mauricio "Bull Metal" Montoya.  Bull Metal would later for the band Typhon and was also the owner and founder of the Colombian record label, Warmaster Records, the label responsible for releasing the infamous Mayhem bootleg, Dawn Of The Black Hearts.  Bull Metal personally numbered all of these EP's out of 1000, my copy being number 20.

Once again we find strange clean guitars on the intro to Sangrienta Muerte, the floor toms on the drums having a very weird pitch shift in one place.  All of this creates total mayhem and breaks out into all out chaos once the distorted guitars kick in.  This is Colombian Death Metal at its very finest.

Parabellum (Col) - Mutacion Por Radiacion (1988)

Parabellum (Col) - Mutacion Por Radiacion (1988)

I always see people saying the artwork with the "cucaracha" is the front cover, but to me, holding this record, it seems correct to believe it is not.  Anyway, enough of the trivial stuff.  This doesn't sound as unforgiving as the previous release does, but that in no way means it is a pushover of a release.  It seems to have a lot more of a punk influence in this one.  It's as though they decided to go in a bit more of a punk direction for Parabellum and Blasfemia picked up where Sacrilegio left off.  Maybe it is just the production though.  There is a lot less of the whole, layers of reverb into distorted guitars going on in this recording, maybe thats all it is.  But there is one part at the end of Bruja Maldita with a very haunting sounding chant thing going on which is seriously evil.  Seriously.

Inquisition (Col) - Anxious Death 12" (1990)

Inquisition (Col) - Anxious Death 12" (1990)

For me, this is the holy grail of all metal releases out of the depths of Colombia.  With most band you are hard pressed to find a band who has top tier musicianship and even rarer to find something exquisitely crafted like this.  This is as far from what the band sounds like these days as you can get. It is relentless, non-stop aggressive Thrash, each track clocking in at about 9 minutes long and packed full of riffs. People have said to me this compares a lot to early Kreator and I can see some similarities, especially in the vocal delivery.  They sound so frantic, and I love that.  But I am not the biggest Kreator fan and I would pick this over them any day.

After this was released, a demo with songs about half as long as what is found on here was released. Afterwards, Dagon moved back to the USA, found another drummer and continued as a two piece playing their unique style of Black Metal that they are known for today.  Don't get me wrong, I love the style Inquisition play these days and have even been lucky enough to see them live 4 times now. But I would have loved to have been able to see them play when they still were a Thrash band like what is found here.

Just so everyone is aware, I have re-uploaded all the previous links which all happened to be dead. So if anything is fucked up or its the wrong link just let me know and I'll fix it.

Blasfemia (Col) - Guerra Total (1988)

Blasfemia (Col) - Guerra Total (1988)

Side project of some of the members of Parabellum, this thing surely is a beast.  Drenched in the most evil fuzz that has ever penetrated your earpussies, this thing does not hold up one bit.  This band is also featured playing a gig on a rooftop in the Colombia film, Rordrigo D: No Futuro, which I will be uploading soon and writing more about that one there.

Parabellum (Col) - Sacrilegio (1987)

Parabellum (Col) - Sacrilegio (1987)

Of all the dirtiest, noisiest most rotten sounds to have come from South Ameria and perhaps even this whole planet comes Parabellum.  One of the first extreme bands from Colombia, whether they knew how to do this or it turned out this way by accident, they created the most evil thing I happen to know of.  This is the sonic equivalent of going to a cemetery and eating the dirt out of exhumed graves.

Whilst the music is the same on both versions, I have taken photos of both variations I own, the first and second pressings.  They both have different back cover art layouts.  First pressing is a black background with photos of the band members arranged around an inverted crucifix.  The second came with a white background with text that is printed in a very bad "dot-matrix printer" style print. There is meant to be a third pressing pressed over used records with inverted colours, but I do not own this and I have never seen it.  So if anyone out there has it or any photos it would be great to see them.  I am not sure if all pressings came with an insert, but only my first press came with one.  I would also like to point out that the sleeves are very thin and cheap quality paper and have not stood the test of time and abuse very well.  In saying that, they are still in fairly good condition.  Most records out of Colombia were not taken care of so well.

Astaroth (Col) - Guerra de Metal 7" (1987)

Astaroth (Col) - Guerra de Metal 7" (1987)

Another evil as fuck sounding 7" from Colombia and possibly my favourite of all the Ulrta-Metal 7" releases from this country.  As always, rawness can be found in abundance here and the out of tune clean guitar parts are just haunting.  Just two reasons why Ultra-Metal is the ultimate evil.  The order I have ripped the tracks in is the order found on the labels and sleeve but it differs to everywhere else I have seen, but I assume what is written is the correct way.

Reencarnación (Col) - Acompáñame a la Tumba 7" (1988)

Reencarnación (Col) - Acompáñame a la Tumba 7" (1988)

Yes, I am back.  It may have been almost 2 years, but I have returned.

And with my return I bring you darkness and evil of the highest tier.  No, not Bathory but the might Reencarnacion from Medellin, Colombia.  Taking a break from Brazil and the East Coast of América do Sul for a while to travel over to the equally as aggressive and extreme West Cost of Sudamerica.  Swapping Portuguese for Spanish now, this is Piolin's follow up 7" release to the insanity of the first Reencarnacion album simply known as 888.  Forever raw and evil, this is not to be left unheard.
