Fester Fanatics (Aus) - What Choice Do We Have? (1987)

Fester Fanatics (Aus) - What Choice Do We Have? (1987)

Its those McCormack brothers, Darren (Jed Star) and Shawn (Snuff Beastly) from Massive Appendage again.  This time teamed up with vocalist Alfie Fester and drummer Tubby Wadsworth to bring you some very interesting Thrash/Crossover.  I'm not too into that style, but what we have here instantly caught my attention at first listen.  Crossover, with a guitarist that shreds like Yngwie all over the album?  What?  Anyway, these guys can certainly play and write some really good riffs.  They also carry over the same type of humour from Massive Appendage, albeit less phallic.  In some places you can't tell if they are serious or not, and in others its totally clear they are just having some fun.  Check out Explorations In Free Form Jazz, its some sort of jazzy jam with what I believe to be Alfie talking to himself, having prank phone conversations with the other band members.  Listen to it for that explanation to make any sense at all.  Finally, there is the album closer, Tubby's Drum clinic.  The first half is a rant of Tubby's with the pitch shifted way up.  I wont bother explaining it any more, it just has to be heard.

Electrocution (Ita) - Inside The Unreal (1993)

Electrocution (Ita) - Inside The Unreal (1993)

When you think of Italy, you don't really think of Death Metal, well I don't anyway.  Which is surprising because this is definitely in my top 5 greatest Death Metal albums of all time.  At first it was the logo and album artwork that lured me in straight away, I had to have it.  Usually with those types of obscure albums the artwork is far greater than the musical content, but I was blown away on this one, a rare thing indeed.  Its straight up Death Metal, but it almost has a Thrash feel to some of the riffs, it almost reminds me of the first Deicide album, riff wise that is.  The guitar playing is finely crafted here, lot of fancy guitar work that doesn't come across as boring and totally unnecessary like a lot of bands, it fits really well with all the songs as if it was meant to be there.  I can't begin to explain the darkness that emanates from this album either.  I can't say if its the vocals, the songwriting or the production, but it definitely has something extremely dark going on here.  This is essential for any Death Metal or even Death Thrash fan out there.  This is a vinyl rip, so there are only 9 tracks.  The original CD release had an extra track, Bells Of The End.  They recently reissued this album, finally.  It deserve a lot more attention than it gets.  I'm not sure if they have any extra material on the reissue, but I wish they hadn't updated the artwork, it looked great how it was!

Tracklisting:

  1. Premature Burial
  2. Rising Of Infection

Malisha (USA) - Serve Your Savage Beast (1986)

Malisha (USA) - Serve Your Savage Beast (1986)

Now this is a heavy metal album!  This is up there as one of my favourite US metal releases ever.    The album is fronted by Kim La Chance, formerly of Vixen and Hawaii, and the band consists of a whole bunch of different musicians which is explained in the LP insert which I should scan and put up one day.  I'm sure you can find something about it out there on the internet.  About the music... Every single god damn track on this album is absolutely perfect.  The vocals are epic as fuck, the musicianship is tight and every damn riff kills.  Check out the intro to Valkyrie, its a perfect way to open the album.  The second track, Love For The Day is a bit out of place as the second track since its an acoustic type track, would've worked a little better a bit further into the album I reckon.  A few standout tracks are Valkyrie, Serve Your Savage Beast, Power Flight and Hands Of The Ripper, but as I said, there is not one track here that will disappoint fans of classic US Metal.  A must hear!

Unfortunately I missed out on seeing Kim La Chance perform Malisha and Vixen tracks at the 2012 Headbangers Open Air festival in Germany this year, I'm kicking myself I didn't!

Orphan Allies (USA) - Running From The Law (1986)

Orphan Allies (USA) - Running From The Law (1986)

Going across to the USA today.  A pretty obscure band with female vocals and a monstrously tall ginger guitarist, awesome!  This was another culprit of poor quality I kept finding on rips on every blog and such, so here it is in all its original glory.  No more cassette quality.  Check out that killer first riff on Running From The Law.

  1. Running From The Law

Massive Appendage (Aus) - The Severed Erection (1988)

Massive Appendage (Aus) - The Severed Erection (1988)

Typically Australian band, no doubt about it.  Just look at the bands name, album art, album name, tracklisting etc.  There seems to be a theme going on here.  But despite all that, this is a really good release from a really good band.  Anyone familiar with Fester Fanatics will already know what to expect from the two McCormack brothers, Snuff and Jed.  Here we also have another brother, Big Bird on vocals as well as Ox on drums who, whilst not a McCormack brother, was in Fester Fanatics at one time.  So I guess you could say its almost the same band except for the absence of Alfie Fester.  Anyway, this album is full of the same humor, so don't expect anything too serious.  This LP was another culprit of crappy rips on the internet and I decided to share a much better quality with the world.  The rip going around the net is paper thin, there is no bottom end at all, most likely due to an old cassette rip.  With the lack of low end it sounds a lot faster than it actually is, but in this rip the bass is right up there and whilst not sounding so razor sharp, its still fast.  So don't worry about that.  Hope you enjoy.

Tracklisting:
  1. War Zone
  2. Ejaculator

Back for another South American release.  This time its the 1990 standalone pressing of Sepultura's Bestial Devastation.  Nothing much to say here besides it is exactly the same as the split pressing from 1985, albeit with a bonus track and the updated logo.  Its a nice logo, but I like the other one better.

Bengal Tigers (Aus) - Metal Fetish (1982)

Bengal Tigers (Aus) - Metal Fetish (1982)

Nice little EP coming out of Melbourne, Australia where the traffic lights sound totally weak.  This is the original Australian pressing from 1982 with 4 tracks.  I also have the worldwide release from 1984 which I will be uploading shortly.  It sounds to me that the two different pressings are also completely different recordings too.  I'm not sure, but I sort of prefer the worldwide press recordings, but they are both really good no matter how you look at it.  People are under the impression that the first track, Nine Lives, is actually a mistake and that it should be titled Got To Deliver.  Now from what I have found from talking to various people where I work who knew the band in the early 80's, that is false.  Yes, it is Got To Deliver, but at the time in 1982 it was titled Nine Lives.  Later on it was renamed Got To Deliver and released under that name on the 1984 release.  Hopefully that clears that up.  I'm sure someone will disagree, but there always has to be someone.

I've also added the 1984 international pressing on Heavy Metal Worldwide to download, as well as photos of the record itself and the German ZYX pressing which is the same as the Heavy Metal Worldwide release.
