Sadistik Exekution (Aus) - The Magus (1991)

Sadistik Exekution (Aus) - The Magus (1991)

Originally recorded in 1988, this wasn't released until 1991.  By that time, the original guitarist who also played in Slaughter Lord had left the band and was replaced by Rev. Kriss Hades.  That would explain why my copy was signed by him, even though he never played on this album (actually, that explains nothing at all).  This is quite a step below what they would eventually end up sounding like on their next album and ones afterwards, sounding a lot more Thrash than anything else here.

I rate this as high as anything from Brazil and it is up there in terms of ferocity with other bands like Poison, Protector or Morbid Saint.

Tracklisting:
  1. Transneobathasaurikal Delusions Of The Unknown

  3. The Magus

Sadus (US) - Swallowed In Black (1990)

Sadus (US) - Swallowed In Black (1990)

The follow up to Illusions is a little different.  Its not a complete turn around, but instead of the frantic intense pace heard on Illusions, this is a little slower and a lot more heavy and crushing sounding.  It is still pretty fast at times, and absolutely no mercy is given.

Tracklisting:
  1. Black
  2. Man Infetstation
  3. Last Abide
  4. The Wake
  5. In Your Face
  6. Good Rid'nz

Mortal Sin (Aus) - Mayhemic Destruction (1987)

Mortal Sin (Aus) - Mayhemic Destruction (1987)

Apparently Australia's finest Metal band, but I can think of many other bands better than these guys.  I'd say its the most well known Metal band, Australia's answer to Metallica.  In saying that, this is such a good album, rivaling Metallica on either Ride The Lightning or to a lesser extent Master Of Puppets.  The guitars have that perfect cutting tone and the bass and drums are heavy as fuck.  Not a single average track on the album.  Lebanon is a long epic with an intro that is up there with some of the best intro riffs ever.  Then you have the title track, Mayhemic Destruction, which is a little strange as in it feels like the rest of the album but is a lot more aggressive and sounds almost like Kreator at times.  Again, not a bad thing.  Too bad they wen't exponentially downhill on their next album.

Tracklisting:
  1. The Curse
  2. Women In Leather
  3. Lebanon
  4. Liar
  5. Blood, Death, Hatred
  6. Mortal Slaughter
  7. Into The Fire
  8. Mayhemic Destruction

Seance (Swe) - Fornever Laid To Rest (1992)

Seance (Swe) - Fornever Laid To Rest (1992)

This is a bit of a strange album for a Swedish band.  At a time when most all Swedish Death Metal sounded like Entombed or Dismember, this one sounds like it should be from Florida.  It is up there with the greats like Morbid Angel and Malevolent Creation for sure.  Also good to know that this was released on Black Mark Productions, so thats how you know this is going to be a good album.

Tracklisting:
  1. Who Will Not Be Dead
  2. Reincarnage
  3. The Blessing Of Death
  4. Sin
  5. Haunted
  6. Fornever Laid To Rest
  7. Necronomicon

Cancer (UK) - To The Gory End (1989)

Cancer (UK) - To The Gory End (1989)

Death Metal really picked up and exploded around 1990.  This is one of those albums released a year before.  Yes, Death had already released a few albums and were already boring as fuck by then and plenty of bands had demos, but there were nowhere near as many full Death Metal LPs in 1989 as there was in 1990.  You had Obituary, Morbid Angel, Atheist, Autopsy, Morgoth, and Pestillence, just to name a few of the bigger names.  You also had this album, Cancer.  I find a lot of the bands who released a Death Metal album in 1989 had a lot darker, primitive feel about them.  This is a good thing.  To The Gory End is no exception and straight away you can see just from the cover artwork this is apparent.  I mean come on, if you hadn't already noticed, this artwork is taken straight from George A. Romero's 1978 film Dawn Of The Dead.  Perfect for a Death Metal album with a title like To The Gory End.  I wont even start to get into how good these songs are otherwise I will be here all night.  Just fucking worship this album.

Tracklisting:
  1. Blood Bath
  2. C.F.C.
  3. Witch Hunt
  4. Into The Acid
  5. Imminent Catastrophy
  6. To The Gory End
  7. Body Count
  8. Sentenced

Destructor (US) - Maximum Destruction (1985)

Destructor (US) - Maximum Destruction (1985)

When it comes to 80's bands from the USA playing the more aggressive styles of metal, 85-86 was the peak of this period. Before then you have a bunch of bands influenced by the NWOBHM and afterwards you have slightly weak, disappointing clones coppying those pre-85 bands.  What you have in between is sheer perfection.  More than often anyway.  Destructor is one of those bands and this album is non-stop speed metal insanity.  I still remember the first time I heard this album and I was hooked straight away.  I still feel the same sense of awe I did the first time everything I hear that first scream in Maximum Destruction up until the outro of Bondage.  By the way, Hot Wet Leather and Bondage are meant to be seperate tracks, but they blend together and it works too well not to have them together so I left them all as one track.  You just can't listen to one without the other.

Originally released on the US label Auburn Records, it was also released on Roadrunner Records in Europe.

Tracklisting:
  1. Prelude In Sledge Minor, Opus 7, 1st Movement
  2. Maximum Destruction
  3. Destructor
  4. Take Command
  5. Instrumetal
  6. Pounding Evil
  7. Overdose
  8. Iron Curtain
