Buffalo (Aus) - Volcanic Rock (1973)

Buffalo (Aus) - Volcanic Rock (1973)

Easily mine, and more than likely everyone elses favourite Buffalo album.  They really came to form here, it's almost like the Australian Black Sabbath at times, really bluesy but really heavy, just listen to Shylock and you'll see why.  Buffalo actually supported Black Sabbath when they toured Australia on the Vol.4 tour, which would have been such a good gig to see.  The songs are a lot longer here too and every single one of the tracks is godly, even Pound Of Flesh, which is an intro jam to Shylock.

Tracklisting:
  1. Sunrise (Come My Way)
  2. Freedom
  3. Till My Death
  4. The Prophet
  5. Pound Of Flesh
  6. Shylock

Buffalo (Aus) - Dead Forever... (1972)

Buffalo (Aus) - Dead Forever... (1972)

Debut album by the legendary Buffalo with Dave Tice on vocals and Pete Wells on Bass who would later go on to form Rose Tattoo after Buffalo was over.  Fairly obvious now but it took me a long time to realise that when you open up the gatefold, the artwork is actually a skull.  Dave Tice still performs some of these songs live under the name of Buffalo Revisted and it sounds just as good now, he's still got that voice.

Tracklisting:
  1. Leader
  2. Suzie Sunshine
  3. Pay My Dues
  4. I'm A Mover
  5. Ballad Of Irving Fink
  6. Bean Stew
  7. Forest Rain
  8. Dead Forever

Black Jack (Aus) - Five Pieces O' Eight (1985)

Black Jack (Aus) - Five Pieces O' Eight (1985)

Australia Metal about Pirates in 1985, way before Running Wild had started on that sort of thing.  Really good little EP with some powerful riffs like in Highwayman's Inn and The Wizard.  Highly recommend release from Metal For Melbourne this one.

  1. Introduction

  3. Hot Rockitt
  4. Prelude #3

Zona Morta (Bra) - Nómades (1989)

Zona Morta (Bra) - Nómades (1989)

From the time I first laid my eyes upon this EP up until finally finding and owning a copy a good nine years had passed.  It is probably the longest any record I really wanted desperately has eluded my grasp.  This is actually the first time I have ever actually seen one for sale since I first started looking all those years back.

At times this EP sounds like Iron Maiden, but with raspy black/thrash vocals.  Whatever it sounds like, it is highly recommended.

Tracklisting:
  1. Prelúdio Para Zona Morta
  2. Catedrais
  3. Unidos Pelo Aço
  4. Nômades
  5. Faraós 2.000 D.C.

Corpse (Bra) - I Live, You Die (1990)

Corpse (Bra) - I Live, You Die (1990)

Not only is this an extremely generic thrash album, it is also one of the lamest and stupidest yet hilarious album covers I have ever seen.  Good job Corpse.

Tracklisting:
  1. Heaven Needs Money
  2. Slaves Of Our Inventions
  3. Back To My World
  4. I Live, You Die
  5. Toxic Death
  6. Life Reflections

Dorsal Atlântica (Bra) - Antes Do Fim (1986)

Dorsal Atlântica (Bra) - Antes Do Fim (1986)

These guys were certainly ahead of everyone else in Brazil at the time.  By the sounds of them you'd expect something like this to come out of Belo Horizonte, but these guys are actually from Rio.  Fast and raw, they certainly sound Brazilian in that sense.  It's very aggressive, but at times it feels like it is more of a very, very fast and aggressive heavy metal album opposed to all the Thrash/Death recordings of the time.

Tracklisting:
  1. Caçador Da Noite
  2. HTLV - 3
  3. Álcool
  4. Depressão Suicida
  5. Vorkuta
  6. Joseph Mengele

Exterminator (Bra) - Total Extermination (1987)

Exterminator (Bra) - Total Extermination (1987)

1987 was definitely a good year for extreme releases and this is about as extreme as it gets.  Not only are some of the songs in Portuguese, the songs in English are so broken that trying to understand what is being said is quite difficult to say the least.  So we got the best of both with that, which more than makes up for the lack of everything else present on this album.  It's so extreme in that when it's good it's good, when its bad, its BAD.  For example the musicianship.  They get some stuff going pretty well, it sounds evil as fuck and gets pretty heavy.  But all the while I think to myself, are these guys even playing the same song at the moment?  Whatever, I still love it.  If Fighting Against The Sky Angels isn't the best song title you've ever heard then I don't know what is.

Currently I only own the later bootleg which apparently has a lower sound quality than the original.  I can't really see the original as being so much better than what it is because of what it is, but I will soon have my hands on it and be able to see for myself.  The easy way to distinguish the bootleg is the bars on the window in the top left of the artwork are cut off and not visible.  I won't go into detail about why people say this album cover is so controversial, I think you can figure that one out yourself.

Tracklisting:
  1. The End
  2. Nightmare
  3. Exterminator
  4. Marchando Para A Morte
  5. Voyage To Hell
  6. Speed Metal
  7. March Of The Exterminator

Flames Of Hell (Ice) - Fire And Steel (1987)

Flames Of Hell (Ice) - Fire And Steel (1987)

I don't have a lot of time to be writing this shit every single day so I like try and get a few in every day or so.  That last post about that god awful Holocausto disappointment of an album really pissed me off so I thought I may have to fix that with a good album, and WHAT AN ALBUM.  This thing is from Iceland of all places, and it is HEAVY as ALL GET FUCKED.  That's right, that's how heavy it is.  1987 was a good year, you had Sarcofago, Mayhem and Poison all releasing some real heavy material but up until recently not many people seem to include this.

It's hard to explain exactly what the fuck this sounds like without actually hearing it for yourself.  The guitarwork is all fucked up, it sounds really weird and the production and tones are even more fucked up.  It's a strange beast.  It's almost like Cirith Ungol decided to play an early style of death or black metal.  The strange and over the top songwriting comes to mind in that sense, but you haven't heard strange and over the top like the fucking vocals on this thing.  I think that is where the biggest Cirith Ungol connection here is, but that's also where it stops.  It is unbelievable at times, what is this guy even doing?  I think I will just stop there.

Tracklisting:
  1. Fire And Steel

  3. Heroes In Black
  4. From The Grave
