This is another of the Poison demos released recently on LP.  This one was released alongside the next one, Awakening Of The Dead.  Same thing happened with the Die Hard editions as with Sons Of Evil, but at least the normal LP pressings had good artwork.  I am not sure when or where it came from, but prior to these official pressings there was a bootleg pressing which also came with two extra songs.  The quality on the official LP is better than the bootleg, but in saying that it's hardly much of a difference.

The overall production quality on this recording is not all that great, but it is a big step further compared to Sons Of Evil.  The ability of the band has gotten better overall, songs are a bit tighter despite still being loose as fuck.  Songwriting is better too, with 6 tracks including an intro and two much longer songs, whereas Sons Of Evil had a total of 13 tracks.  All but the intro and the track Witchfynde would go on to be recorded again for the next demo and Witchfynde would appear once more on the Live Terror demo.  These longer, more complex songs would be a taste of what was to come from this band, constantly improving but sadly going nowhere in the end.

The first time I ever heard this demo was after hearing their later output.  At first I found this to be almost unlistenable, but over time it grew on me.  Although, without a doubt, sometimes this makes Hellhammer's demos sound a bit like Van Halen.  I love I though, you can really tell these guys just wanted to be Venom, especially in the track Leather And Metal, which just sounds like they copied In League With Satan.  Not a bad thing at all!  It starts off slow with The Omen but then goes absolutely bat shit crazy as soon as it hits the second track Inferno Breaks Out.  I would have really liked to hear some of these tracks played and recorded later on in the band's life as they progressed a lot with every demo they did.

I currently have no tape deck with which to record with, but earlier this year the demo was finally released on LP.  It sounds exactly the same as the demo so it doesn't have much better quality, but why would you want that?  I was pretty disappointed with the artwork too.  Only the Die Hard edition came with the original tape artwork, and they were limited to 50 and sold out in about 3 seconds.  Now cunts are trying to sell them for upwards of $150.  Fuck that, you can almost buy the original tape for that much if you feel like wasting that much money on a piece of plastic.

This really is the definition of absolute insanity, this album sometimes also goes by the title of 888 Metal, no idea why the 888 though.  The guitars are all over the place, the basslines just follow the guitar but in places seem to even go double time and just shred scales.  Being Colombian, all lyrics are sung in Spanish and the vocals seem to have some sort of strange reverb/delay effect on them too, typical of South American bands but somehow it comes across as feeling really fucking weird.  And just when you thought it was weird enough, in comes to fucking Violin.  What?  Doesn't seem like an instrument that would work with this type of music, but it's used sparingly.  Most notable is in the track Reencarnación (II Parte) where it mixes really eerily together with the guitar.

This isn't quite as noisy as something from Colombia like Parabellum and it is a lot clearer and together than Nekromantie.  It is fast as fuck for 1988 though and is definitely at the top of the releases Colombia has to offer.

This time Osmose actually managed to get a track listing in the correct order for once.

For the 1994 recording it was finally time to have an album released featuring the guitar work of Rev. Kris Hades.  The Magus was recorded back in 1988 with Sandy from Slaughter Lord and by the time it was released in 1991 Kris Hades was already a member.  The drums were not recorded by Sloth either, who had left only to come back later.  And with that, you can hear a huge difference in sound and playing styles here.  A lot more frantic and one step away from their next album K.A.O.S. which is ultimately the sound they were looking for all along.  Even Rok's vocals are more intense here and they would stay the way they are here for the rest of the band's career.

In saying that, it is a nice middle between the Death-Thrash madness of The Magus and the chaotic absurdity that is K.A.O.S. and everything following.  Another weird thing is the quality of all the songs differ from track to track, making it seem as though some were recorded at separate occasions.  I gather this is possibly the reason Bassist and main songwriter for the band always tells me he has the actual mastered tapes at his house and Osmose are fucked.  So hopefully in the future we may be able to hear the fully mastered version.  After all, I am sure Dave needs other methods of income.  You can't really live off of teaching Bass and walking around at local gigs with a shopping bag full of CDs, Patches and Stickers and selling them or trading them for beers.

Originally recorded in 1988, this wasn't released until 1991.  By that time, the original guitarist who also played in Slaughter Lord had left the band and was replaced by Rev. Kriss Hades.  That would explain why my copy was signed by him, even though he never played on this album (actually, that explains nothing at all).  This is quite a step below what they would eventually end up sounding like on their next album and ones afterwards, sounding a lot more Thrash than anything else here.

I rate this as high as anything from Brazil and it is up there in terms of ferocity with other bands like Poison, Protector or Morbid Saint.

The follow up to Illusions is a little different.  Its not a complete turn around, but instead of the frantic intense pace heard on Illusions, this is a little slower and a lot more heavy and crushing sounding.  It is still pretty fast at times, and absolutely no mercy is given.

Apparently Australia's finest Metal band, but I can think of many other bands better than these guys.  I'd say its the most well known Metal band, Australia's answer to Metallica.  In saying that, this is such a good album, rivaling Metallica on either Ride The Lightning or to a lesser extent Master Of Puppets.  The guitars have that perfect cutting tone and the bass and drums are heavy as fuck.  Not a single average track on the album.  Lebanon is a long epic with an intro that is up there with some of the best intro riffs ever.  Then you have the title track, Mayhemic Destruction, which is a little strange as in it feels like the rest of the album but is a lot more aggressive and sounds almost like Kreator at times.  Again, not a bad thing.  Too bad they wen't exponentially downhill on their next album.
